Featured Animal Action

In the scene where the actor busts down a door and a bunch of pigeons fly out taking him off-guard, prior to shooting the scene, the pigeons’ trainer conducted successful test flights with the same homing pigeons from the location at the beach to their home coop. The pigeon provider is a regular homing pigeon racer, and the birds are experienced homers. All pigeons were released so they could form groups to fly home. On the day they filmed the scene, the hallway in front of the camera that led to the stairs had been sealed off with black cloth. The door to the outside is rigged to remain open once the actor forces it open. On action, the actor kicked open the door and the trainers released twelve birds on cue. Eighteen pigeons flew out the door singly and in small groups as actor clung to the left doorframe to avoid being hit or blocking the birds. The pigeons only had to fly 15 miles away to go home.
